Kingman
The Kingman turquoise mine in Arizona is one of the most prolific and storied mines in the world.
This painting explores the depths of the earth, it's textures and complexities as well as the metaphoric 'river' of Creation that runs through all things. The multiple layers of reflective gold, yellows, and brown create a grounding, a steady connection to the Absolute Goodness of the Earth (thank you, Alice Walker). This is a reminder that what is underneath our feet is as beautiful and holy as what is above us.
The red line at the top of the canvas, running alongside the turquoise is something that is consistent in many of my works. It symbolizes my entwined, deeply spiritual relationship with indigenous cultures. In this piece, the relationship is with the Diné and my adoration for turquoise in squash blossom necklaces.
Kingman is 15" x 30" x 1.5 and is $1700.
